Testimonials from Parents

"My experience with the BCCC has been one of a nurturing and caring environment in which to leave my children.  It is always lovely to leave my baby with such professional and friendly staff, who make my child feel like she is the most special child in the centre. But I am sure that every other parent feels the same way!"

Moving to Beechworth from Sydney in October 2007, we set about finding a childcare centre for our (then) 3 year old son Daniel. Our choices were between Albury, where we both worked, or Beechworth where we lived. Ultimately we wanted Daniel to go to childcare and make friends with the kids that he would go through school with. It also helped us to get to know many other families in town and make friends of our own.

One of our biggest concerns was that Daniel had loved his previous childcare centre, and I was quite sure that we would never find anything as good as that again. So I was very keen to check out BCCC and see what they offered. The first thing that struck me about BCCC was the staff – they were all very experienced and had a good range of ages. I am always worried about centres where all the staff are in their early 20s with no real life experience! I was also really happy to find out that most of the staff had been at the centre for a long time and that staff turnover was quite low. I know that Daniel gets quite attached to his carers and it’s not good to have them come and go all the time.

The next major challenge that we had to face was that Daniel has peanut anaphylaxis, and the red tape and paperwork and procedures to go through with that can be a nightmare, and sometimes we feel like we can be a real burden! Luckily for us BCCC was very understanding and immediately set about making sure everything was ready for Daniel to start at childcare. They had all the policies and processes in place already, and all the staff were fully briefed on Daniel’s specific case, and rather than being made to feel like we were a hassle, everyone went out of their way to help. The staff asked us lots of questions just to make sure they completely understood the situation, and whenever I have had to change anything its been acted upon straight away.

Working full time and using childcare 5 days a week means that it’s essential to find a centre that provides great quality care. Many days I do wonder what Daniel does in childcare all day long, but by 5pm when we collect him it’s really very obvious that he’s had a great day playing with his friends. The teachers are always ready to have a chat and keep us up to date on what they are learning and the latest themes they are exploring. They are also very happy to talk about those ‘issues’ that invariably arise. Earlier in the year I spent at least an hour talking to one of the teachers during her lunchbreak about a problem that we were having with Daniel. I am sure that she didn’t get much of a break, but by the end we had worked out a great strategy for dealing with the problem!
There are many great things about BCCC – the staff, the families, the kids, the location. But mostly for us we love the fact that we can call at any time, ask any questions, talk directly to the teachers, and have input on anything.

The staff really make you feel that your child is special which makes the transition to using child care much easier.   The environment and facilities are excellent.  I really appreciate the responsiveness of the service and the ability to swap or gain extra sessions at short notice - centres in neighbouring cities are unable to offer this wonderful flexibility.  I urge Beechworth residents to utilise the service in their local community!
