Here is a really helpful resource to explain coronavirus for kids! We thought it might be useful for our families so our littlest people have a clear understanding of what is happening and what we can all do to help. It's also super reassuring; there's a strong message that this won't be forever. ... See MoreSee Less
Early childhood educators and teachers across the country go every day into early learning services where they will interact with children of essential workers who could be exposed to COVID-19. They will not be given face masks or protective clothing. They won't get free coffee, half price pizza, or special shopping hours. They will perform their jobs in ways that they have never done before and they will do it with a smile on their faces so that the children in their care don't know how scared they are. Scared for those children, scared for their own. Scared of being responsible for taking the virus home to loved ones. Scared for the world.
Thank you to all the educators, teachers, and anyone else heading into an early learning centre to keep it running so that our amazing health workers and carers can take care of the sick and the vulnerable, so our shops can stay open, and services can continue. You too are heroes!
From the BCCCC Committee of Management to our remarkable team, THANK YOU! You have had to be so flexible, so understanding, and so patient while we navigate these challenging times together as an early years learning community. Thank you for your generosity and for giving so much of yourselves; it won't be forgotten! ... See MoreSee Less

There are a number of processes and levels of assistance in place from the government to help families during these uncertain times, but these measures are only helpful if children stay enrolled, even if you choose to self-isolate. We appreciate that these decisions are very difficult and involve the financial, social, and emotional well being of your family.
We understand that the pandemic has impacted many of our families’ income through job losses or cuts. Please be aware that if you are in this situation, you may be eligible to access up to 13 weeks of fully subsidised fees in order to keep your enrolment at the centre. This can be done through Centrelink, through ‘Temporary Financial Hardship’.
Please speak with Mandy if you require any assistance with this. Our primary focus during this time is the safety and well being of our children, families, and educators, and we are always seeking ways in which to maintain cohesion and provide assistance for our whole child care community. Thank you so much for your support! ... See MoreSee Less
We wanted to share this video with you - Dr Rob Gordon is a trauma psychologist who has lots of useful strategies for understanding how people will respond during periods of uncertainty and high stress. It goes for just over three minutes and talks about what you might see in your children, and how to support them further. He does mention going out and socialising with friends - we don't recommend that currently (in person) but maintaining social connection will be super important as we move through the coming weeks and months. ... There are many things we have control over! We hope you have time today to take some nourishing breaths, and to dig deep once more to find courage and resilience as we face this together. ... We are awaiting further communication from the Department of Education and Training and the Department of Health, however in the meantime please be aware of the following.
We will be conducting temperature checks on arrival at the service for all children. This will commence tomorrow, Monday 23rd March. We will be strongly enforcing our Illness Policy, and your child will be sent home immediately if they show any of the signs listed on the infographic below. We will be conducting frequent temperature checks throughout the day.
We ask that only one person comes into the service to drop off or pick up a child/ren. There is hand sanitiser at the sign in desk, please use it as you enter and exit the building.
Please, if your child/ren displays any symptoms, keep them at home. It is critical that we all work together in the coming days and weeks as our country takes further measures to slow the spread of coronavirus.
We will communicate all changes as they occur, as we anticipate they will over the next 24-48 hours. Thank you for your understanding! ... See MoreSee Less
As you are no doubt aware, last week the World Health Organisation and the Commonwealth Government declared the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) a pandemic, reflecting the widespread increasing transmission of the virus globally. This can be an unsettling time for adults and children alike, as we navigate uncharted territory in the coming days, weeks, and months.
Please be assured that the management team and the Committee of Management at our service is in constant communication with the Department of Education and Training, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the safety and wellbeing of our children, staff, and families is of utmost importance.
If your child is exhibiting any signs or symptoms of COVID-19, we urge you to keep them away from the centre. Furthermore, if your child is immunocompromised or is in regular contact with someone who is, or is vulnerable, please consider their care options carefully. If your child becomes ill while at the centre, we will contact you and ask you to pick them up immediately.
The World Health Organization has announced that COVID-19 is a pandemic. Find out how we are monitoring and responding to the outbreak, how you can help slow the spread of COVID-19 in Australia, and what to do if you have symptoms. We also report the latest official medical advice and case numbers.

Date: 09-01-2020 Dear Parents CONFIRMED CHILDREN’S SERVICE CLOSURE I am writing to advise you that our facility will be closed on Friday the 10th January due to fire danger in our area. The service is expected to open on Monday the 13th of January 2020, when conditions are predicted to improve. We have been reviewing the risk daily over the past week and please understand that we have not made this decision lightly. As we have seen, the conditions for fire can change rapidly. With the high temperatures and extreme fire danger predicted for tomorrow we have made the decision to close. The wellbeing of our staff and children is of our highest concern. I realise that closing the facility may result in you having to make alternative arrangements for your child, but the safety of our children and Educators remains our top priority. Given the predicted weather conditions, we urge that your child is not left at home in the care of older children. We are taking all possible steps to ensure our community is aware of our planned closure, including displaying posters advising of the closure at our entrances. If, however, you know of other parents who, for any reason, may not be aware of the planned closure, please contact them to help ensure they are aware that we will be closed on Friday the 10th January. Please also explain to your child and family members that we will be closed. For safety reasons, no Educators will be on-site when the facility is closed. For up-to-date information on this year’s fire season, visit the CFA website at www.cfa.vic.gov.au, VicEmergency App or call the 24-hour Victorian Bushfires Information Line on 1800 240 667. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused. Families will not be charged for their planned attendances. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. Yours sincerely, Mandy Holt ... Happy New Year to all our families, We know it has been a very challenging start to 2020 for so many Australians including people in our own communities. We wish to alert parents that the Beechworth Childcare Centre currently plans to open on Tuesday 7th, however we wish to communicate the following advice: • Air quality due to smoke remains very poor. If your child has asthma or you have any concerns about their health, please consider whether home may be the safest option for them. Please call the centre if you plan on keeping your child/children home for the day. • As we have seen, the conditions for fire can change rapidly. Please keep in mind that the childcare centre may need to close at short notice as we have staff that live in high risk areas who may not be able to attend. • We remind you that the centre will be closed on Code Red fire days, however we will be reviewing the risk daily and may need to close on additional days (For example, in the event of a Watch and Act notification from Vic Emergency) for the safety of our staff and children. Please understand that we will not be making these decisions lightly, and that the wellbeing of our staff and children is of the highest concern.
